Are equity investors positioning for inflation?

This chart below by @kgreifeld, is interesting, as it suggests companies with higher pricing power have been outperforming.

Obviously, having pricing power is always attractive, in times when the market is concerned about inflation, it could be another sign of investor concerns and conviction.

Pricing power is of course the ability to maintain revenues (or sales) while increasing prices. In times of inflation all companies become subject to higher costs, however those that are able to pass on those costs to their customers maintain profits and so have higher returns for their investors.

Investors seeking such companies could be a further indication of concerns over inflation.
